Rosa Parks to lie in state in Capitol Rotunda

Today (Sunday) and tomorrow the late Rosa Parks will will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. The first woman ever to be given this honor.

May she rest forever in peace.

Note:

This photo was taken after Rosa Parks was arrested for her bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1956. The photo was discovered in 2004 by someone who was cleaning up the Montgomery County files.

Update:

The pastor of the Paulist Center in downtown Boston this morning said that Rosa Parks should serve as an inspiration for all who are interested in promoting justice in our society. That says it all.

In honoring her we also pay tribute to all the courageous men and women who were part of the civil rights struggle. Many of these brave souls put their own lives at risk for a noble cause. I was privledged in the late Sixties and early Seventies to work with a few of them.
