Several news organizations are reporting that the alleged threat that led to heightened security on NYC subways last week may have been a hoax on the part of an Iraqi informant attempting to get money in exchange. It's likely that this "hoax" provided a boost to Blomberg's reelection campaign. It also helped bolster Bush's argument that it's "better to fight them over there than here in NYC."
