A Very Sad Story...

I've just been watching a news conference on the young woman who threw her three young children off a pier into San Francisco Bay last evening. We're told she was reacting to voices she was hearing.

I must say the coverage of this story has been more sympathetic than the treatment of Andrea Yates a few years ago. Nobody demanding the death penalty. Of course, we haven't heard from the lawyers/prosecutors yet.

This kind of terrible tragedy should inspire a discussion of how we can more effectively help those who are mentally ill in our society. In the old days the answer was to put people away. There has to be a better solution.
